The hippopotamus is the third largest land animal.

The hippopotamus is a semi-aquatic ungulate animal with hoofed feet . hippopotamus is found in sub-Saharan Africa. It lives in lakes and slow-moving rivers surrounded by grasslands.Hippos are graceful in water, good swimmers, and can hold their breath underwater for up to five minutes. However, they are often large enough to simply walk or stand on the lake floor, or lie in the shallows.

Physical Description:

Hippopotamus is having Short legs and Huge heads.
Generally weighs about 2,500-3,000 poundsStands about 5 feet tall.
They are generally 12-15 feet long, not including the tail.
The tail is usually 22 inches.
Each foot has 4 webbed toes.
Their eyes, ears and nostrils are positioned on top of their heads, allowing hippos to remain aware of their surroundings while almost entirely submerged in water. A clear membrane that covers their eyes allows hippos to see underwater

Diet:

Hippopotamuses, like all ungulates, are herbivores. More specifically, they're grazers, which means they consume grasses. Hippos feed at night, beginning at sunset, and can graze for more than five hours at a time. They eat approximately 88 pounds of grass -- a fraction of their body weight , during each feeding session.

Predators:

Compared to other animals, hippos are not very susceptible to disease, so in suitable habitats, their numbers can increase quickly. Their chief predators are people, who may hunt hippos for their meat, hides and ivory teeth.

[
Facts:The name hippopotamus comes from the Greek "hippos," meaning horse,       these animals were once called "river horses." But the hippo is more closely related to the pig than the horse]
